16+16T Metallurgical Double-Girder Overhead Crane Delivered to Gansu Steel Production Base

Nation: Gansu Steel Production Base

A large-scale comprehensive domestic steel manufacturer has constructed a new hot-rolled finished-product workshop for mass transportation of hot-rolled steel coils and heavy steel billets.

Project Background &Working Conditions

A large-scale comprehensive domestic steel manufacturer has constructed a new hot-rolled finished-product workshop for mass transportation of hot-rolled steel coils and heavy steel billets. The operation environment features long-term high temperature, heavy dust and 24-hour non-stop heavy-duty hoisting. Conventional general-purpose overhead cranes have insufficient high-temperature resistance and fatigue resistance and cannot adapt to the high-intensity production rhythm of steel mills. After multiple rounds of on-site investigations, the customer finally selected Henan Dafang Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. to customize metallurgical-grade QD type 16+16-ton double-girder overhead cranes.n-site evaluations, the client selected Henan Dafang Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. to custom-engineer a metallurgy-grade QD 16+16 Ton Double Girder Overhead Crane system.

Project Execution & Solution Overview

Dafang supplied multiple units of this metallurgy double girder crane model for the project. Key project milestones and engineering solutions included:

Dual Main Hook Synchronized Structure
Designed for flexible dual-mode operation—either operating a single hook independently to lift 16-ton components or synchronizing both hooks to lift heavy, oversized steel coils safely.
Tailored Field Survey & Optimization
Dafang’s engineering team surveyed the plant span, rail height, and ambient temperatures on-site to optimize heat insulation, dustproofing, and fatigue resistance across the entire structure.
35-Day Manufacturing & Inspection
The entire manufacturing cycle was completed in 35 days, with 100% full-load testing, NDT flaw detection, and high-temperature simulations prior to factory dispatch.
Turnkey On-Site Deployment
The equipment passed installation, load testing, and client acceptance in a single pass upon arrival and is now officially operational in the hot-rolling workshop.

Core Technical Features & Advantages

High-Temperature-Resistant Metallurgical Main Girder
Above the equipment in the steelmaking hot-rolling workshop, thermal radiation is constant. Ordinary steel is prone to thermal deformation and stress cracking. The main girder and end carriage of this crane are made of thickened Q355NL low-/high-temperature-grade steel plate. The main girder box structure features an enlarged thermal insulation layer to block heat radiation from the steel coils. All load-bearing welds are 100% ultrasonic non-destructive tested. The entire machine is designed to metallurgical A7 ultra-high working duty, meeting 24-hour continuous high-frequency lifting operations — resistant to deformation and cracking even under long-term heavy loads.
Fully Sealed, High-Temperature, Dust-Proof Electrical System
The workshop interior has heavy metal dust and high ambient temperature. Standard electrical controls easily accumulate dust and short-circuit, or suffer motor overheating and burnout. The entire electrical system has been upgraded for metallurgical duty: the control cabinet is equipped with forced air-cooling units and multi-layer dust-filter screens, rated to IP65 protection. The lifting and travel motors use high-temperature-insulated windings, paired with high-temperature-duty variable-frequency braking systems. All cables use heat-resistant, flame-retardant sheathing — eliminating downtime caused by high temperatures and dust.
Dual-Hook Synchronous Lifting Structure
The crane is configured with Dafang’s self-developed dual 16T lifting trolleys. The two hooks can be operated independently or synchronized with one-click synchronous lifting and travel. When lifting extra-long hot-rolled steel coils, the load is evenly distributed, preventing workpiece drift, collision, and surface damage. The lifting attachment is paired with thickened load-bearing chains and high-temperature-duty pulley blocks, adapting to billets, coils, profiles, and other steel-plant workpieces — significantly improving charging, warehousing, and transport efficiency in the workshop.
Heavy-Duty Anti-Corrosion Coating & Standardized Plant Protection
The main girder is finished in Dafang’s signature industrial red anti-corrosion topcoat, using a three-layer epoxy zinc-rich coating system that resists high-temperature oxidation and metal-dust corrosion. The cab and maintenance platform are equipped with yellow safety guardrails. All bolts and fasteners are hot-dip galvanized for rust prevention — keeping the equipment clean and durable even after long-term use in dusty, high-temperature workshops. Before delivery, heat-shield panels are installed at key structural positions to block direct heat radiation from the coils onto the main girder.

On-Site Delivery & After-Sales

After the equipment arrived at the steel plant, Dafang dispatched a professional engineering team to handle the full process on site: assembly, bridge connection, electrical wiring, and load test lifting. A complete set of material reports, factory inspection certificates, and metallurgical-equipment safety acceptance documents was provided simultaneously. Dafang also conducted hands-on training for the plant’s operators and maintenance staff, covering daily upkeep under high-temperature conditions and rapid fault diagnosis. Long-term online remote technical support is provided, with a full inventory of original factory spare parts — ensuring the plant’s year-round continuous production is not affected by equipment downtime.

Summary

The 16+16T metallurgical double-girder overhead crane delivered in this project is a heavy-duty, purpose-built lifting equipment developed by Dafang Heavy Machinery for the steel smelting and hot-rolling industry. With A7 high working duty, a high-temperature and dust-proof structure, and dual-hook synchronous lifting design, it is perfectly suited to billet, coil, and heavy-profile transport in steel plants. Dafang Heavy Machinery can custom-build metallurgical overhead cranes in the 5T–100T range for all types of metallurgical, forging, and hot-rolling workshops — providing one-stop service from solution design, manufacturing, and on-site installation to maintenance training.
